In a bold step to reimagine education as a driver for peace and development, the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Kenya partnered with Mt. Kenya University (MKU) on July 1, 2025, during the university’s Career Week to empower over 100 students through the innovative LEAP Hubs program. The event introduced students to practical entrepreneurial tools, grounded in moral and leadership values essential for building sustainable peace and prosperity.

The session, organized by MKU’s Office of the Director for Student Recruitment, Admissions, Registration, and Career Services, was facilitated by Mr. Vincent Ayako, Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Manager at GPF Kenya. Mr. Ayako led a hands-on workshop on the Business Model Canvas, guiding students through the nine fundamental building blocks of a successful enterprise: value proposition, customer segments, customer relationships, channels, revenue streams, key partners, key resources, key activities, and cost structure. This practical training equipped students with critical thinking and strategic planning skills, in a bid to nurture a generation of innovative, impact-driven entrepreneurs.

The highlight of the day came during a motivational session by Mr. Daniel Juma, Africa Regional Representative and Country Director at GPF Kenya. Emphasizing the importance of moral and innovative leadership, Mr. Juma inspired students to use their talents in service to others and to lead with integrity and vision. “Values,” he affirmed, “are always at the heart of true, transformative leadership.”

This collaborative initiative is part of GPF’s Transforming Education initiative, which aims to shift the global education paradigm from rote memorization to a holistic, values-based approach that nurtures ethical, entrepreneurial, and peace-conscious individuals. GPF believes that education should foster academic achievement, character, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility, qualities that are foundational for peaceful and prosperous societies.

The budding partnership between GPF Kenya and Mt. Kenya University marks the beginning of a deeper, multi-faceted collaboration. Plans are underway to develop a framework that integrates value-based peacebuilding, entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship, and access to the prestigious President’s Fellowship Program, a youth leadership development program. Also in attendance was Dr. Afubwa Musumi, Deputy Director of MKU’s Career Office, who expressed optimism about the partnership’s long-term impact on student empowerment and leadership development.

GPF is committed to cultivating global citizens who can innovate boldly and collaborate across divides to solve pressing societal challenges. The Transforming Education initiative reshapes education to cultivate both workplace-ready competencies and timeless virtues, encouraging learners to engage in digital technologies, entrepreneurship, and values-driven leadership within a supportive ecosystem built by communities, educators, and parents. This vision, outlined in the Transforming Education Blueprint and the Transforming Education: Toward 2050 framework, positions education as a catalyst for national transformation.

Education, when shaped by universal values and innovation, serves as a frontline strategy for peacebuilding, civic virtue, and long-term prosperity. Using events like the LEAP Hubs workshop to help students deepen their entrepreneurial skills and moral character, GPF Kenya is offering a learning model that both empowers individuals and supports broader social cohesion.
