The One Family under God Radio Program (OFUG) has emerged as a powerful platform for fostering unity, peace, and social cohesion across Nigeria. Throughout February 2025, this initiative by the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria reached over 5.4 million listeners across Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Niger states, delivering a compelling message: “Love as Foundation of Peace and Security.

Hosted on Liberty Radio Kaduna, the program consisted of three weekly episodes, each addressing key themes related to peaceful coexistence. The first episode focused on the roots of conflict and the importance of recognizing our shared humanity. Abdul Ahmed, Senior Programs Manager at GPF Nigeria, and Shettima Ahmadu, the organization’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, emphasized that economic disparities and resource disputes often fuel violence. They highlighted GPF Nigeria’s community-driven approach, which involves working with faith leaders, women, and youth among other stakeholder to build peace from the grassroots.

The second episode, airing in the spirit of Valentine’s season, explored love as a foundation for peace and security. Rimpyen Danjuma Yohana of GPF Nigeria and Nurudeen Dauda, a public affairs analyst, highlighted the idea that most social ills—crime, terrorism, and violence—stem from a deficiency of love. They encouraged listeners to express love not just through words, but through tangible actions like acts of kindness, service, and personal sacrifice.

“Love promotes a sense of belonging and motivates collective action,” shared Rimpyen, stressing that that only an individual who feels loved can demonstrate love to members of the family and society in general.

“The culture of peace is a necessity for any family or society to progress, but that culture must be developed both at personal and interpersonal levels. Love can only be shared by those who have it,” added Nurudeen.

The final episode shifted focus to the family as the first agent of socialization. The guests emphasized that values such as respect, responsibility, and empathy must be instilled at home, as they form the bedrock of a peaceful society. They urged parents to take a “family-first” approach, ensuring children grow up with a strong moral compass.

The response from listeners was overwhelmingly positive. Omega Chukwudi, a caller from Kaduna, praised GPF Nigeria for reaching communities affected by violence and conflict, reinforcing the idea that peace is non-negotiable for national development. Another listener, Andrew George, expressed his determination to practice the lessons of love and kindness both within his home and in the wider community. Amos Tanko, a regular listener, stressed that restoring core family values is essential to addressing modern societal challenges.

Beyond on-air discussions, the program has inspired many to take active roles as peace ambassadors in their communities. The One Family under God Radio Program is a movement that is shifting mindsets, breaking down barriers, and fostering a culture of love-led peacebuilding. By reinforcing shared values and encouraging individuals to take responsibility for social harmony, GPF Nigeria’s February OFUG episodes are proof that peace starts in the home and spreads outward to transform entire communities.
