On April 11, 2026, the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Philippines achieved a milestone with the successful launch of the Solar-Powered Community Learning Center in Gayonggayong, Mayantoc, Tarlac. The Learning Center will now serve the community’s families while supporting the learners and teachers of Gayonggayong Elementary School.

GPF Philippines collaborated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Education (DepEd), with support from the Bless Microfinance Corporation, to make this initiative a success.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Ms. Marie Beatrice Mendoza, president and CEO of BLESS Microfinance Corporation, said, “At BLESS, we believe that impact is greater when we work together. Through projects like these, we empower families and youth to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams.”

The center serves as a learning and education hub for the community, offering a learning space, digital learning, and community development. Powered by solar energy, the center aims to create a sustainable environment for lifelong learning. It is designed as a safe, functional, and empowering space for the community and learners of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.

The center is well-equipped with ten laptops, a Smart TV, a whiteboard, a printer, tables, and chairs, all of which are essential for having a conducive learning environment. This provides a space for group discussions, workshops, trainings, and collaborative learning. Additionally, the learning center will provide learning materials for families, students, and community members.

Mr. Leonard Faustino, executive director of GPF Philippines, expressed his high hopes for the initiative and said, “This is not just a simple project—it’s a space for learning and growth, it’s about providing opportunity. When a community has access to education and the right resources, a better and brighter future becomes more possible for every family.”

In communities where access to electricity remains a challenge, the learning center provides a platform for children, youth, and families to study, explore digital opportunities, and grow and learn together. The initiative reaffirms a strong collaboration and shared commitment to ensure that no community is left behind.

Beyond its physical features, the project demonstrates the importance of coordinated efforts in addressing gaps in access to education and resources. By aligning the strengths of government agencies, private institutions, and community stakeholders, the initiative contributes to more sustainable and inclusive local development. The Solar-Powered Community Learning Center stands as a practical example of how targeted investments in energy and education can create meaningful opportunities at the community level.

Community-driven peacebuilding begins when people have the tools, trust, and shared spaces to learn, grow, and solve challenges together. GPF Philippines is committed to strengthening communities where every family has the opportunity to thrive through education, sustainable solutions, and strategic partnerships.
