The talent and diversity of the world was displayed in the heart of Limerick during the “Our City, our Culture” multicultural showcase organized by Global Peace Foundation Ireland youth coordinator Mr. Ahmed Hassan and students from local universities. Students from the University of Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology and Mary Immaculate College participated and the Limerick Arts Office, Integration Working Group, and Doras Luimni provided support.
Students with cultural roots in Saudi Arabia, the United States, Nepal, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya, France, Brazil, India, Oman and native Ireland brought their culture alive through song, dance, costumes, food and theater.
In Limerick, there are over 25,000 higher education students during the academic year with a vibrant international student population representing over 100 countries from around the world that makes up 10 percent of the student body. The event harnessed the creativity, energy and growing potential of the student population, and recognized and embraced the diversity of Limerick.
The showcase was the first of its kind, reaching over 600 spectators in Limerick city central. Global Peace Foundation Ireland and partners hope to make the student cultural showcase an annual event that fosters multicultural exchange and cooperation.
