In honor of International Women’s Day 2023 on March 8, 2023, Area Mujer held a Commemorative Fellowship Meeting at the Restaurant “La Preferida,” in the center of Asuncion. Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Paraguay and Global Peace Women work collaboratively through Area Mujer to advance areas related to women and families in peacebuilding.
Global Peace Women, an affiliate of GPF, provides support and education to strengthen families, uplift women, and advance women’s leadership around the world. Women play an essential role in strengthening families, communities, and their nations. Empowered women are moral and innovative leaders who drive peace and prosperity in their communities.
The commemorative event brought together a select group of hard-working women leaders and professionals from different disciplines of national activities. Among those present were doctors, journalists, teachers, cultural promoters, lawyers, officials of the Chamber of Senators, a Navy Lieutenant, former Ministers of Education, Secretary of Social Action, National Defense and the Superior Court of Electoral Justice, the Sub Officer of the Motorized LINCE (National Police), and women representatives of Social Organizations.
The event sought to amplify the valuable contribution of women in different areas of nation-building and in being an example and inspiration for future generations. Participants reflected on the progress achieved through women’s participation and the challenges they face in their different spheres of work. Proposals for change were shared as they celebrated the courage and determination of women who have played a critical role in the history of their countries and peoples.
Cristina Field, the Regional Representative of GPW, welcomed the special guests, and MarÃa Ester Jiménez, National President of Area Mujer, contextualized the importance of gathering to uplift women leadership in peacebuilding. Other speakers included Ms. Sonia Brucke, Legislative Technical Director of the Chamber of Senators, who discussed the role and impact of Paraguayan women in the international arena. Participants were also given an opportunity to network and share their various interventions, reflections, and proposals with the aim of enriching the objective and purpose of the meeting.
