Jakarta, February 24, 2026 — Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, Global Peace Foundation Indonesia, in collaboration with PPI Dunia and the Gaza Peace Initiative, organized a webinar titled “Ramadan in Gaza: Voices, Humanity, and the Call for Peace.” The event served as a space for reflection, solidarity, and cross-border dialogue, connecting youth with voices directly from Gaza to reaffirm the importance of peace and humanitarian values.
Held virtually via Zoom, the webinar was attended by 150 participants, including youth, students, academics, and representatives of peace and volunteer organizations from various regions and countries. The event aimed to present a more holistic humanitarian perspective beyond numbers, statistics, and media narratives by placing the lived experiences of Palestinians at the center of the discussion.
The program opened with an interactive session inviting participants to reflect on the meaning of the word “Palestine.” Responses ranged from sorrow and humanity to empathy and hope for freedom and peace, reflecting the collective concern of the younger generation for the Palestinian issue.
Ramadan in Gaza: Resilience Amid Crisis
The main session featured Mohammed Ezzat Abu Hassira, a Palestinian citizen and founder of the Gaza Peace Initiative. He described Ramadan in Gaza as a time filled with hardship due to economic strain, food scarcity, and a deteriorating security situation.
He shared that many families break their fast with very limited meals, with parents often sacrificing their portions for their children. Children grow up more familiar with the sounds of conflict than with laughter. Yet the spirit of Ramadan endures through meaningful, simple acts—neighbors sharing food, communities supporting one another, and hope being preserved despite profound loss.
From a Palestinian perspective, peace is not merely a political concept, but the ability to live a normal, safe, and dignified life in which families can exist without fear, parents can provide with dignity, and children can grow up in security.
He emphasized that Gaza does not need pity, but tangible international cooperation. Reconstruction, he noted, is not only about rebuilding physical infrastructure, but also about restoring trust, creating opportunities, and ensuring safety for communities.

The Role of Indonesian Youth and Global Solidarity
The perspective of Indonesian youth was delivered by Rayhan Maulana Ryzan, Secretary General of PPI Dunia, who highlighted the strategic role of the Indonesian student diaspora in
advocating for peace in Palestine. He stated that Indonesian students abroad hold an important position as bridges of global solidarity through people-to-people diplomacy, the strengthening of humanitarian narratives, and cross-border collective action.
PPI Dunia actively coordinates discussions, official statements, and humanitarian fundraising initiatives for Palestine. One of its ongoing initiatives is Ruang Harapan (Space of Hope), a solidarity platform focusing on winter aid, child welfare, rehabilitation, sanitation support, and food assistance for Palestinian communities, including those in Gaza and refugee areas in Jordan.
He affirmed that solidarity must not stop at empathy, but must be translated into concrete and sustainable action until justice and dignified peace are achieved.
In closing, the discussion underscored that solidarity with Palestine requires long-term commitment and consistent collective action. The webinar concluded with a Q&A session, a group photo, and the announcement of voluntary donation channels to support the fulfillment of basic needs for the people of Gaza.
Through the “Ramadan in Gaza” webinar, the organizers hope to foster empathy, global awareness, and a shared sense of responsibility, especially among the younger generation, to continue advocating for peace, dignity, and humanity for Palestine and the world.
GPF continues to affirm that lasting peace begins with our shared humanity and grows when young people are equipped to lead with compassion, responsibility, and a commitment to the dignity of every person.
