Ms. Sarah Morgenthau

Sarah Morgenthau is currently the Director of Peace Corps Response at the Peace Corps. Ms. Morgenthau, who was appointed by President Obama, arrives at the Peace Corps with considerable legal, financial, and political experience and a long-standing commitment to public service.  In addition, she brings proven expertise in working effectively in both the public and private sector and in building relationships that advance organizational, program, and policy objectives. 

Most recently, Ms. Morgenthau was actively engaged in the Obama for America Campaign, serving on the National Finance Committee.  In that capacity, she was involved in successful fund-raising efforts.  She also served as New Jersey state director of Women for Obama. Before that Ms. Morgenthau worked on the 2006 campaign for Mayor Cory Booker in Newark, New Jersey.

Ms. Morgenthau’s legal experience includes a five-year tenure as a litigation attorney with a New York City law firm, as well as a staff attorney position with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, also in New York City, and a clerkship for a U.S. District Court Judge in Newark, New Jersey. Ms. Morgenthau graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Barnard College and has a law degree from the Columbia University School of Law. Ms. Morgenthau is married to Carlton Wessel, a law partner at DLA Piper LLP.  They currently live in Washington D.C. with their three children, Teddy, Henry and Mizia.
