In a converging moment of spiritual significance, Nigeria’s religious leaders gathered in Abuja on March 16, 2026, to chart a path toward national unity and peaceful coexistence. Organized by Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria, in collaboration with Faith and Freedom Africa, the National Religious Leaders Consultation on Faith and Nation Building brought together over 100 stakeholders, including clerics, scholars, and religious leaders from diverse faith traditions.
Under the theme ‘Faith, Fasting, and Nation-building: Ramadan and Lent Reflections for National Harmony,’ the event stressed the powerful role of interfaith collaboration and tolerance moving forward and shaping a more cohesive and peaceful society. The consultation underscored the shared spiritual values between Islam and Christianity during the season of fasting, reflection, and charity, with participants emphasizing that leadership must transcend religious and ethnic considerations and that Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a divisive force.
At the heart of peacebuilding is the recognition that every person carries equal dignity and that societies grow stronger when people of different backgrounds choose dialogue, shared responsibility, and the common good over fear and division.
