The Roundtable is chaired by Ambassador Samuel Brownback and is comprised of a group of individuals from non-governmental organizations who gather regularly to discuss IRF issues on a non-attribution basis, speak freely in sharing ideas and information, and propose joint advocacy actions to address specific IRF issues and problems. In response to various participant-led initiatives regarding the protection and promotion of freedom of religion, conscience, and belief in the U.S. and abroad, all participants have the opportunity to self-select into coalitions. The average attendance of the Roundtable’s bi-monthly virtual meetings has grown to 120 participants from civil society and government, including senior staff members from the State Department, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, the U.S. Helsinki Commission, the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, the International Religious Freedom Caucus, members of Congress, and embassies. With approximately 83 percent of the world’s population now living in countries with high government restrictions on religion (according to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life), the goal of the Roundtable is to reverse the rising tide of restrictions on religious freedom that is spreading globally. In its capacity as a staunch advocate for efforts to support religious freedom around the world, the Global Peace Foundation serves as a member of the IRF Roundtable, the Roundtable’s steering committee, and in the executive leadership level of the IRF Secretariat.
