Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Indonesia provides continuous community service opportunities for young volunteers, leaders in society, and teachers and mentors to connect to other people in their communities and discover new leadership skills.
Volunteer service and community development are essential components of sustainable peacebuilding. By engaging community members and local organizations as partners in finding sustainable solutions to development challenges, GPF is helping to build vibrant communities, foster self-reliance, and support entrepreneurial empowerment.
Beginning in February 2023, GPF Indonesia partnered with Widyatama University to provide training on “entrepreneurship and agricultural product innovation” for the people of Sukaresmi Village in West Java. Fifteen strawberry farmers from Sukaresmi Village enthusiastically participated in the training provided by representatives from Widyatama University to develop innovative processed strawberry products, marketing methods, and entrepreneurial motivation.
The program is expected to help improve the long-term economy of strawberry farmers. After completing their training and implementing new methods, the farmers will be able to process strawberries into products with higher value compared to only being sold in fresh form.
The farmers who are part of the ongoing training program expressed their gratitude and excitement to provide and promote new products. This small fruit may seem simple. Even in its simplest, freshest form, a strawberry manages to bring joy to so many. For these farmers, it is their livelihood. But it is also an opportunity to create, innovate, and provide for their families and communities.
