The Global Peace Foundation (GPF) has long championed values-based education as a pathway to national transformation. Through its Transforming Education Blueprint, GPF emphasizes that education is not only about academic achievement but about cultivating lifelong character and holistic growth. The blueprint outlines key priorities: strengthening family-school partnerships, fostering moral and innovative leadership, promoting peacebuilding, igniting creativity and entrepreneurship, and leveraging technology with ethical clarity.
At the core of this vision is the conviction that transformation begins with people, not programs. By equipping learners across moral, emotional, physical, and cognitive dimensions, GPF works to nurture citizens of integrity who can lead across all sectors of society and shape peaceful, prosperous nations. Building on this global framework, GPF and Mount Kenya University (MKU) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in advancing values-based, character-driven education and transformative leadership in Kenya and beyond.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, Vice Chancellor of MKU, and Dr. Tony Devine, Global Vice President of Education at GPF, during a ceremony attended by senior representatives from both institutions, including Prof. Wanderi, Eunice Owino (Deputy Director, Linkages and Partnerships, MKU), Vincent Ayako (Partnerships Manager, GPF Kenya), and Mike Gitau (Communications Officer, GPF Kenya).
In his remarks, Prof. Jaganyi affirmed MKU’s commitment to equipping students with holistic skills that transcend academics.
“At MKU, we are not only training for the job market; we are preparing ethical leaders who can transform governance, healthcare, technology, and all sectors of society. This MoU reinforces our vision of producing graduates who are problem-solvers, peacebuilders, and innovators.”
Dr. Devine, on behalf of GPF, emphasized the centrality of character in building peaceful and prosperous societies.
“You cannot have economic prosperity without peace, and you cannot build peace without people of good character. Together, GPF and MKU can nurture leaders who will strengthen families, foster inclusive communities, and transform nations.”
The partnership will facilitate joint research, faculty and student development programs, and co-created initiatives promoting character formation, entrepreneurship, and community transformation. It also provides a framework for MKU and GPF to expand impact across other universities and institutions in Kenya and the wider region.
The MoU between GPF and MKU is more than an institutional agreement; it is a deliberate alignment of vision and action. It places values, peace, and innovation at the center of education, ensuring that graduates are not only employable but also transformative leaders in society. As this partnership unfolds, it strengthens the call for education systems to serve as engines of character, peacebuilding, and inclusive prosperity across Africa and the world.
