Students, educators, government leaders, and development partners came together in Nyeri County, Kenya, to launch the Hug the Earth Tree Nursery, an initiative encouraging young people, especially girls, to take an active role in environmental action and stewardship. Speaking during the event, Minnesota State Representative Hulda Momanyi Hiltsley urged students to “plant not only trees but also character, kindness, honesty, integrity, and courage.”

For the Global Peace Foundation, environmental conservation is closely linked to peacebuilding and sustainable development. “We are planting hope, responsibility, and a better future for generations to come,” said Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi, GPF Africa regional representative. Through its environmental peacebuilding initiatives, GPF promotes responsible stewardship of natural resources, strengthens community resilience, and equips young people to become leaders in creating healthier, more peaceful communities.
