Young people from diverse backgrounds are taking the lead in advancing social cohesion and mutual understanding through the newly launched Hangang Unity Planning Committee in Seoul, an initiative of Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Korea. Bringing together South Korean youth, North Korean escapees, members of the Korean diaspora, and foreign-born youth, the committee creates opportunities for meaningful collaboration, dialogue, and community engagement.
Organized by GPY Korea and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the initiative was launched as part of the 2026 Seoul Inter-Korean Youth Social Integration Project. The committee equips participants with practical leadership experience as they design and implement programs that foster understanding, trust, and inclusion. Through volunteer activities, cultural exchanges, and public events, the project demonstrates the vital role young people can play in shaping a more connected society.
Over the next five months, committee members will work together to transform the symbolic spirit of the Han River into real experiences of cooperation and belonging.
