As Dr. Junsook Moon, co-founder of the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), said, “Women as mothers, wives, sisters and daughters, have a natural gift to create an environment and experience of home and family.”

Women are at the heart of families and societies. They carry a unique capacity to build trust, nurture relationships, and create spaces where people feel connected and supported. In everyday life, from how families resolve disagreements, to how neighbors support one another, to how communities respond to challenges, women play a crucial role in fostering dialogue, strengthening social cohesion, and preventing conflict.

The Global Peace Foundation recognizes this important role of women in peacebuilding, beginning within families and extending into communities. Through its Women and Families in Peacebuilding efforts, GPF has invested in women leaders and peacebuilders by providing leadership training, mentorship, and opportunities for collaboration.

Across Tanzania, this vision is taking shape. GPF Tanzania is empowering women through economic initiatives, peacebuilding programs, and mediation training. Through these efforts, Tanzanian women are developing the skills and confidence to address community challenges, strengthen cooperation, and help sustain peace in their societies.

Participants of the VICOBA and women’s leadership engagement in Mayanga Ward posing for a group photo, reflecting a growing community committed to economic empowerment and peaceful coexistence.

In Mtwara, GPF Tanzania conducted a multi-stakeholder engagement meeting with the Embassy of the Netherlands and other development partners to strengthen coordination for peacebuilding. The engagement explored conflict dynamics and coordination strategies for sustainable peacebuilding. It also included a site visit to a women-led cashew processing factory that supports more than 600 women, contributing to women’s economic empowerment and community resilience.

GPF Tanzania also conducted a workshop that reinforced markets as spaces for both economic activity and community peacebuilding. The program trained women market traders in mediation skills, with a focus on Women, Peace, and Security within market environments. The workshop helped participants strengthen their conflict resolution skills, improve collaboration between women and market leaders, and develop community action plans to prevent and address conflicts in marketplaces.

In Mayanga Ward, GPF Tanzania conducted a Village Community Banking (VICOBA) training, a capacity-building workshop focused on financial management and group governance. Participants learned about financial recordkeeping, transparency, group sustainability, accountability, and the connection between economic empowerment and peacebuilding.

GPF Tanzania’s initiatives reflect GPF’s broader vision of empowering service-minded leaders who can address challenges and build lasting peace from the ground up. These efforts reaffirm GPF’s commitment to strengthening women and families as essential partners in peacebuilding. Support women peacebuilders.
