Ambassador Fred Ngoga Gateretse is the Head of the conflict prevention and early warning division at the African Union Commission (AU). The Division includes the Continental Early Warning System, the Panel of the Wise, and the AU Border Program. Prior to joining the division, he served as a senior officer with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) where he assisted operational teams from the Military, Civilian, and Police components to provide support on Counter-Terrorism and in the planning of military operations in line with AMISOM’s mandate. Amb. Ngoga has studied in France and in the US where he attended the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, and Suffolk University. He also received numerous professional training on peacekeeping and international security with Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, the African Center for the Research and Study on Terrorism in Algeria (ACSRT) and with the British Army’s Defense Intelligence and Security Center (DISC) in Chicksands, United Kingdom. He was appointed on 16 April 2014, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Burundi.
