Innovative digital technologies offer a practical solution for preserving Guaraní cultural works. In The Asunción Times article, “Guaraní Heritage Revival: Musical Tribute Celebrates Lost Paraguayan Literary Treasures,” Cynthia Gonzalez reported, “The Global Peace Foundation and the Patria Soñada Institute have launched an ambitious project to safeguard Paraguay’s Guaraní heritage through digitalising over 14,000 previously unpublished poetic and musical works in Guaraní, Jopará, and Spanish.”

Ms. Gonzalez noted that organizers presented the ambitious project, which selected cultural works from approximately 20,000 that were in historic Ysyry magazine publications between 1942 and 1995, at a recent cultural event held at Asunción’s Teatro Municipal Ignacio A. Pane. The event included a musical celebration “featuring traditional polkas and Guaranias” that connected the past and present. Dr. Alda Cardozo, National Director of the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Paraguay, underscored the importance of preserving the Guaraní heritage.

Notable attendees mentioned in the article included several GPF representatives, including the GPF Latin America and Caribbean representative Thomas Field, and the governments of the United States, Taiwan, and Paraguay. Other stakeholders included the former United States Ambassador to Paraguay, James Cason, who preserved the Ysyry collection and performed a Guaraní piece at the event, and cultural stakeholder Dr. María del Carmen Giménez. Cuban American singer Gloria Estefan also showed her support of the project via a video.

This joint project, using innovative digital technologies, will preserve thousands of Guaraní cultural works. Through the collective efforts of GPF, the Patria Soñada Institute, and others, Paraguay’s Guaraní heritage will be preserved for current and future generations.
