Fellows from the first cohort of Global Peace Leadership Corps Indonesia
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, Global Peace Leadership Corps Indonesia proudly celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of Pioneer Peacebuilders. Nineteen outstanding fellows have completed a transformative nine-month journey, equipping themselves with the leadership, values, and skills necessary to drive impactful peacebuilding initiatives.
Mark Farr, Program Manager of Global Peace Leadership Corps, attended the graduation ceremony alongside Shanti Tamang.
Global Peace Leadership Corps is a leadership platform initiated by Dr. Hyun Jin Moon, Chairman of the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), to nurture a new generation of peacebuilders. After its successful launch at the 2023 Global Peace Convention in the Philippines, Indonesia became one of the pioneering countries to implement this visionary program. Throughout their journey, the fellows engaged in intensive training, global networking, and direct community service, all designed to strengthen their ability to foster unity and peace. Their commitment was honored in this graduation ceremony, a recognition of their dedication and perseverance.

The fellows undertook a structured program beginning with a leadership camp that took place from May 31 to June 2, 2024, which provided them with a foundational understanding of peacebuilding principles and leadership development. The program was also attended by Ingill Ra, Regional Representative of GPF Asia Pacific who provided additional insights and guidance to further equip the fellows in their journey. Through this onboarding activity, the fellows gained a deeper understanding of the program and built strong bonds with one another, enabling them to collaborate effectively in completing the six-month program ahead.
To facilitate continuous learning and engagement, the fellows participated in monthly calls that connected them with peacebuilders from different countries to exchange ideas and best practices. Their journey also included online courses to build their foundation in universal values, principles, and essential peacebuilding skills, and service activities, including a service program in Jakarta (January 2025), where they actively participated in the One Korea Campaign They engaged with students in the Thousand Islands schools and built meaningful connections with their Korean peers. Additionally, fellows played key roles in various peacebuilding initiatives led by GPF Indonesia, such as organizing the International Day of Peace and the Korean Dream Online Seminar. Their hands-on involvement solidified their leadership capabilities and commitment to making a lasting impact.

Their remarkable efforts were acknowledged by Mark Farr, GPLCorps Program Manager, and James P. Flynn, International President of GPF, who extended their congratulations. Mr. Flynn highlighted Indonesia’s strategic role as a leading ASEAN nation in fostering tolerance and unity in diversity. He acknowledged the fellows’ dedication to learning and practicing peacebuilding values, recognizing their commitment to implementing the vision of one human family in their communities.
Each fellow was recognized as a Pioneer Peacebuilder, receiving a peacebuilder certificate, a certification from the Global Peace Leadership Corps that adds value to their peacebuilding journey. Beyond this, GPF Indonesia also awarded special acknowledgments to 11 fellows for their exceptional dedication, including the Commitment to Learning Award, Act of Peace Award, and Exemplary Peace Project Award.
In addition to these recognitions, the fellows initiated peace projects in various cities, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, and Semarang. These projects, led by the corps fellows, brought together young people from different religious backgrounds to visit places of worship and learn about tolerance and interfaith understanding. This initiative serves as a tangible outcome of the Global Peace Leadership Corps, demonstrating how the fellows have multiplied the impact of their training by applying the lessons from their online courses to real-world community engagement.
The impact of GPLCorps was evident through the fellows’ reflections. Joko Susilo shared: “I learned that cultural humility and active listening are key to fostering trust and collaboration. Understanding different perspectives leads to meaningful and lasting peace.” Cherine also reflected on her experience, highlighting how the program deepened her understanding of peacebuilding: “GPLCorps has broadened my perspective on peacebuilding. I have come to realize that peacebuilding requires both deep understanding and dedicated service to spread peace values effectively.”
The successful execution of this pilot project marks a significant milestone for the Global Peace Leadership Corps. It serves as a best practice model for future cohorts and other nations looking to implement similar initiatives. This graduation is not just the culmination of a program—it is the beginning of a greater journey for these peacebuilders to create lasting impact in their communities and beyond. Congratulations to the Pioneer Peacebuilders of Global Peace Leadership Corps Indonesia!
