Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Philippines hosted a groundbreaking workshop for leaders in education from July 25-27, 2023, entitled “Creating a Model of Transforming Education: Moral and Innovative Leadership Training Workshop.” More than 80 esteemed educational leaders from the Philippines’ DepEdRO-3 attended the three-day workshop alongside GPF representatives.
The workshop offered a unique opportunity for participants to deeply understand how they can revolutionize education through the Transforming Education initiatives presented by GPF International Vice-President for Education Dr. Tony Devine. Dr. Devine served as the lead presenter, highlighting the importance of perseverance and determination in achieving success and empowering the participants in their journey toward transforming education in the Philippines.
GPF Philippines’ Education Chairperson, Dr. Dinah Mindo, and Executive Director Aldrin Nituma also gave inspirational messages at the opening of the workshop, while Dr. William Bacani, DepEdRO-3 Chief of HRDD, discussed “Ukit MARANGAL” (Ukit = molding/shaping; MARANGAL = dignity/integrity), the framework program of all competency development initiatives of the regional office for all personnel.
Education Director for GPF Philippines, Ann Marlita Montejo Arevalo, provided an overview of GPF’s signature Character and Creativity Initiative, which points to character development and fostering creativity in the education system as the ultimate path to success for students in their futures. The CCI program has helped empower teachers, students, and communities—particularly in the region’s Nueva Ecija division—for years.
In the session “Transforming the Culture of Classrooms, Schools, Districts, and Regions,” DepEdRO-3 regional director Dr. May Eclar presented “Marangal na Lahi, Ito ang Ating Mithi” (meaning “A dignified race, this is our ideal”). Dr. Eclar shared current innovations in the region and how these helped improve field operations and empower officials and the workforce of each governance level which have translated into integrity, competence, and diligence in their respective roles and functions.
During the workshop, each School Division Office (SDO) developed action plans outlining how they intend to integrate the theory of transformation in their respective offices. This exercise allowed for collaboration and sharing of ideas among the participants, fostering a sense of unity and collective growth.
Each SDO then presented their development plans at the culmination of the workshop, followed by a pledge of commitment (crafted by the regional HR team) to uphold their personal and professional transformation plans.
Overall, the workshop provided a platform for educational leaders to gain valuable insights, engage in meaningful discussions, and develop strategies for personal and professional transformation in the region.
