Alliance for Korea United – USA (AKU-USA) is a coalition of Korean-American organizations and individuals advancing the cause for a united Korea that fulfills the historic ideals and aspirations of the Korean people.
On March 3, AKU-USA partnered with the Global Peace Foundation and Liberty in North Korea at Emory to host a forum at Emory University in Atlanta showcasing the movement for a free and unified Korea. The panel, Korean Dream: Pathway to Peace & Freedom – Addressing North Korea, Human Rights and Security with a Vision for Unification, featured two distinguished speakers—Hyunseung Lee and Colonel David Maxwell. Similarly, on March 7, AKU-USA partnered with the Global Peace Foundation and Liberty in North Korea SMU to host a forum at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Hyunseung Lee is a North Korean escapee and human rights advocate. With a background in international business and military operations in North Korea, he has become a sought-after consultant for the U.S. government and policy circles in Washington, D.C. Hyun Seung serves as lead program strategist at the Global Peace Foundation.
Col. David Maxwell is a retired US Army Special Forces colonel and has spent more than 30 years in Asia, specializing in Northeast Asian Security Affairs and irregular, unconventional, and political warfare. He is the vice president of the Center for Asia Pacific Strategy and a senior fellow at the Global Peace Foundation where he focuses on a free and unified Korea.
