A Journey Toward 15 Billion Trees
Representative delegates of the Global Peace Leadership Conference Africa 2024 participated in a tree-planting program at Konza Technopolis on June 25, in Nairobi, Kenya. The environmental project contributes to President Ruto’s National Tree Planting Campaign, which aims to plant 15 billion trees by 2032. The ambitious project is helping to reduce greenhouse emissions, stop and reverse deforestation, and restore 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes.
Mitigating environmental threats is an essential component of peacebuilding. Delegates at the GPLC 2024 later participated in an Environmental track at the convening where leaders examined the environmental challenges confronting the continent and highlighted practical steps in effective environmental stewardship as part of the African Renaissance.
Participating organizations include: Global Peace Foundation, Mama Doing Good, Chandaria Foundation, Kenya Public Service Ministries, Konza Technopolis, Rotary Club of Nairobi, KEPSA Foundation, and Inter-Religious Council of Kenya.
