Global Peace Foundation is a leading partner in the One Korea Global Campaign, which is creating a platform with popular culture to connect millions around the world to take action for Korean reunification and global peace. Top K-pop and international artists, called One K stars, have donated their time and talent to the One K Concerts. Major broadcast companies like KBS and SBS have partnered to reach the global K-pop fanbase.
The One K Concert opened with a joint choir of Japanese and Korean citizens singing “When the Day Comes” and messages by GPF Founder and Chairman Dr. Hyun Jin P. Moon and Seoul Mayor, Park Won-soon, who shared his hope for Korea’s bright future.
“Culture is a prime platform that can realize these three core messages from the peaceful movement one hundred years ago. History is a conversation between the past and the present and it is also a message for the future… I hope the One K Concert today can help the nation realize the dream that our independence fighters dreamt of 100 years ago. Their vision was clear. They dreamed of Korea’s rise as a global cultural power. I hope we can make that dream come true through the K-pop concert.”
Held 100 years after the March 1 Independence Movement of 1919, the One K Concert commemorated the day two million Korean citizens began a non-violent movement to build one independent and free nation. The spirit of the March 1 Movement lives on today as many demonstrate their support and hope for a united Korea that can bring stability and prosperity to the Northeast Asia region and the world.
