Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria trained forty women in Nigeria’s Kaninkon Chiefdom on financial literacy ahead of a generous grant provided by the memorial of Mrs. Gaytri Rai, an Indian woman who was a devout mother, spiritual leader, and passionate and dedicated promoter of peace.

Kaninkon Chiefdom is among the hot-spots within Kaduna State that experienced a colossal loss of life and properties in recent years. The economic activities of women were crippled and their unity fizzled as a result of the perennial crises in the area. Women voices were silenced in terms of decision-making, leaving men to address issues that affect women as a whole because women there lacked sufficient economic opportunities and resources to improve in their own lives.

In order to improve in their business activities, reduce poverty among women and enhance their participation in promoting peaceful coexistence in the area, GPF Nigeria engaged local stakeholders to provide tools, resources, and project ideas for women in the area.

Forty women received a training on financial literacy.

The women were drawn together from diverse ethno-religious backgrounds and were equipped with skills in financial planning and management, record keeping and access to the market. This was done in order to assist women beneficiaries upon receiving the grant to judiciously use it for their own investments.

This grant was designed as a revolving fund to touch the lives of thousands of vulnerable women within Kaninkon Chiefdom. The project began in June 2020 and will continue to be monitored over the span of a year.
