The Old Ebbitt Grill was the setting for an Appreciation Dinner for Congressman G.K. Butterfield by the Global Peace Foundation (GPF). Staff members, partners, and supporters gathered to honor the retiring representative who has been a great supporter of the GPF mission.
“Thank you, Congressman G.K. Butterfield, for your years of service and your contribution to America and to the global family,” said James P. Flynn, International President of GPF, as he presented the award of appreciation, a heavy metal statue, emblazoned with the GPF logo.
GPF shared a video montage during the event that featured the Congressman as he met with a 2017 Action for Korea United (AKU) delegation as they visited Washington, DC. He helped to inspire the AKU leaders to resolve the division of the Korean peninsula and finally unite their homeland. He also participated in the Forum on One Korea as a member of the US Congressional Roundtable.
“As a fighter, changemaker, and peacebuilder, he encourages the N. Korean next generation as they join efforts to liberate their nation,” said Alan Inman, Senior Advisor, Global Peace Foundation.
After the 117 Congress, the congressman and former judge who represented the North Carolina district since 2004 will resume practicing law in the Washington, DC, area. During his acceptance remarks, Congressman Butterfield said that although he is retiring from his seat in congress, he will continue to support the efforts of GPF and may have more of a role in future activities.
