Ubuntu Africa Youth Assembly Series: Ethical Leadership and Empowering Youth
The Ubuntu Africa Youth Assembly aims to foster and strengthen ethical leadership, empowering African youth to become valuable actors in African affairs now and in the future through intentional engagement among themselves and with African elders who possess proven moral authority

About this event

With more than 400 million people within the 18-35 age bracket, Africa is the youngest continent in the world. The meaningful involvement of the youth in African affairs is highly consequential for building a better future for the continent and the global community.

Africa’s future depends on nurturing leaders grounded in ethics, community values, and inclusivity. The philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — emphasizes shared humanity, compassion, and responsibility. At a time when young Africans face challenges of unemployment, governance deficits, and rising social tensions, there is a pressing need to cultivate ethical leadership that turns the tide on corruption and conflict. Equally, Africa’s elders possess wisdom, experience, and cultural memory that must be transmitted to younger generations. Intergenerational dialogue rooted in Ubuntu provides a pathway to bridge these worlds for sustainable peace, justice, and development.

The Ubuntu Africa Youth Assembly aims to foster and strengthen ethical leadership, empowering African youth to become valuable actors in African affairs now and in the future through intentional engagement among themselves and with African elders who possess proven moral authority. It also aims to provide a continental platform where African youth and elders engage in ethical leadership formation and intergenerational dialogue, inspired by Ubuntu values, and foster collaboration for Africa’s sustainable future.

OBJECTIVES

  • Promote Ethical Leadership: Equip young leaders with values-based frameworks of integrity, accountability, and service.
  • Foster Intergenerational Dialogue: Create space for elders and youth to exchange wisdom, experiences, and aspirations.
  • Advance Ubuntu Values: Reassert the centrality of compassion, solidarity, and mutual respect in public life.
  • Build Networks for Action: Develop cross-country youth coalitions committed to ethical governance, peacebuilding, and inclusive development.
