“At first, I felt nervous, but now I feel more confident and believe I can improve if I keep practicing.”

Genyi Tamang is one of the participants in Project Saksham, a project designed to raise service-minded leaders in Nepal. What began as a simple project session became a moment of personal breakthrough, reflecting the power of grassroots initiatives.

Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nepal launched Project Saksham in schools across Kathmandu. It is a character and leadership development initiative in which volunteers engage directly with students, teaching practical leadership skills rooted in the Global Peace Values Framework. The program encourages participants to apply values such as responsibility, teamwork, humility, self-discipline, and service within their families, schools, and communities.

On March 13, 2026, GPF Nepal conducted a session at Ratna Rajya School, where students learned public speaking, prototyping, and idea pitching. Through interactive activities, students developed innovative solutions to real-life and community issues while strengthening their creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills.

At the same time, in another part of Kathmandu, students from Shivapuri Secondary School and Tangal School participated in evaluation and reflection sessions, sharing how the program influenced their behavior, mindset, and goals. These sessions recognized students’ achievements and encouraged them to continue practicing positive values in their daily lives.

The impact of the project is significant. Based on evaluations conducted with 44 students, teachers observed that 100 percent of participants demonstrated at least one positive behavioral change as a result of the program. Additionally, 95 percent of students reported increased self-confidence, while 88 percent improved their communication skills. Students also showed stronger teamwork, empathy, responsibility, and self-discipline, with many gaining greater clarity about their future aspirations.

Beyond these evaluation findings, the program is creating lasting personal transformation. Renisha, another student participant, shared, “I learned many things in these sessions, like respecting others, responsibility, and obedience. The teachers are very friendly and always ask for our opinion.”

Similarly, Ranjit K. Ram reflected on how he began applying values such as self-discipline, diligence, responsibility, and humility in his everyday behavior after joining the program.

Project Saksham goes beyond academic learning. It teaches students to think beyond themselves and develop a mindset of service and collective responsibility, a mindset of living for the greater good. Students learn to respect diverse perspectives, work together, and become ethical leaders who contribute to peaceful, sustainable communities. At the same time, volunteers develop their own leadership skills and strengthen a culture of service and commitment to shared values.

As these young leaders grow, they help build stronger trust, social cohesion, and positive transformation within society. Every confident student voice, every act of responsibility, and every young leader empowered through Project Saksham is a step toward a more peaceful and compassionate future for Nepal.
