Global Peace Association (GPA) Nepal has announced a joint venture with Kangwon Land Co. Ltd, a South Korean government contractor that has developed resorts and other leisure facilities in Korea, to launch the Nepal High 1 Hope Village Project near the scenic tourist center of Pokara.
Serving as the local project coordinator, GPA Nepal will work to engage community members in the project at Bharat Pokhari Village, some 14 kilometers from Pokara. “For the development of any society the active participation of the people living in the area is needed,” Kangwon Land Co. Executive Vice President Mr. Kim Seoung Won said during a site visit.
The main objectives of the two-year project include the establishment of a community center, water and sanitation management, and entrepreneurship and educational training programs.
The project hopes to benefit some 300 households in Ward 7 of Bharat Pokhari Village and will be expanded after a study of the implementation of the project.
Following the signing of a Letter of Intent on July 5, representatives from Korea and the government of Nepal, as well as other support organizations travelled to Bharat Pokhari for a site visit. Mr. Kim said that he found that the people in Bharat Pokhari were involved in different development works in the community and noted that Bharat Pokhari was similar to the Kangwon Land resort in Korea, which encouraged the firm to invest in the Nepal project.
The program is being funded under Kangwon Land Co. Cooperate Social Responsibility division.
