Mr. Laban Cheruiyot holds an M.A in Diplomacy and International Studies from the Institute of Diplomacy & International Studies, University of Nairobi, and a B.A in Political Science from the University of Nairobi. He is currently the Deputy Director and the head of the Public Education and Training Division at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR. Mr. Cheruiyot leads the human rights education division whose mandate is to raise awareness on human rights among the public and provides training to both state and non-state actors on human rights. He has previously worked with the Ministry of Devolution and Planning at the Devolution Sector Working Group (DSWG) secretariat as a Programme Specialist and at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – Kenya at the Civil Society Democratic Governance Facility (CSDGF) secretariat as an M&E Specialist. He has experience in peacebuilding in Kenya and in the Horn of Africa region having worked as a Programme Officer at the Africa Peace Forum, where he pioneered the creation of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) secretariat with the support of UNDP following the 2007/2008 post-election violence in Kenya. He is passionate about human rights education, peacebuilding, and national cohesion.
