Imam Muhammad Ashafa is the Chief Imam of Ashafa Mosque Foundation and co-director of the Muslim-Christian Interfaith Mediation Centre, leading task forces to resolve conflicts across Nigeria. In the 1990s, Imam Muhammad Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye and led opposing, armed militias dedicated to defending their respective communities as violence broke out in Kaduna, northern Nigeria. The documentary film “The Imam and the Pastor,” based on their experience, is an inspirational presentation on forgiveness. An Ashoka fellow in 2006, Ashafa was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in alternative medicine in India in 2005.
