H.E. Álvaro Colom served as President of Guatemala from 2008 to 2012. He was the founding General Director of Fondo Nacional para la Paz, an institution that develops and implements projects to eradicate extreme poverty in Guatemala. He was previously a deputy Minister of Economy and a deputy of PARLA- CEN (Central American Parliament), a regional forum that works for peace, democracy and the regional integration of Central America.
