The Korean Dream of a unified Korean peninsula is alive and well in Mongolia. The Global Peace Foundation (GPF) hosted the “Mongolia Forum and Retreat: Northeast Asian Peaceful Development and Korean Unification” on June 24, 2025, at the Best Western Premier Tuushin Hotel in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Co-hosts included Blue Banner, One Korea Foundation, Global Peace Leadership Corps, and Action for Korea United. In addition to discussing the unification of the two Koreas, Mongolia’s actions to counter climate change were also highlighted.
As noted by Jhoo Dong-chan in The Korea Times article “Global Peace Foundation’s forum in Mongolia explores Korean unification, climate action,” Inteck Seo, Action for Korea United (AKU) Chairman, opened the forum by introducing the organization’s vision of unification. “The Korean Dream does not want one side to take over the other. We want to draw a picture of how a united Korean Peninsula can bring hope and help all of humanity. It is Dr. Hyun Jin Preston Moon’s long vision for a new and united nation.” Dr. Moon is GPF’s founder and chairman as well as AKU’s founder and co-chairman.
Next, former Mongolian Prime Minister Amarjargal Rinchinnyam delivered welcome remarks. He discussed the challenges his country is facing related to climate change, particularly the threat of desertification.
In his article, Dong-chan also observed the forum’s highlight: a signed joint statement on a united Korean peninsula by the distinguished scholars attending the event. Other topics discussed were Mongolia’s strategic importance to the reunification effort, Center for Asia Pacific Strategy Vice President David Maxwell advocating for “unification first, then denuclearization,” and the event’s side leadership program for youth under 25 years of age, “Dream and Challenge: Mongolia Youth Leadership Forum and Adventure Workshop.”
On August 15, the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from colonial Japanese rule, GPF will host the Korean Dream Hangang Grand Festival along the Han River. The event, which has a theme of “Beyond the Miracle on the Han River, to National Harmony and a Unified Korea,” is an outcome of the Korean Dream 10 Million Unification Campaign Organizing Committee.
