The upcoming 2020 Global Peace Leadership Conference will be hosted completely online for the first time on July 30-31 to accommodate precautionary measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. The theme this year will be, “Transforming Societies for Sustainable Peace and Development through Moral and Innovative Leadership in Education and Peacebuilding.”
Learning to adjust to the new normal, our GPF chapters from around the world have welcomed experts and leaders to share their innovative thoughts on virtual platforms that are providing useful and transformative information to a global audience, covering topics like education, violent extremism, and the reunification of the Korean peninsula. The following Zoom calls are just some examples of how the online forums are helping communities continue to build peace amidst a global pandemic.

Kenyan, Ugandan, Nigerian and American educators, administrators, and government ministers examined the unique challenges of supporting students and providing equal access to online learning amid the Covid-19 pandemic that has shuttered schools across the region and throughout the world. Experts from Mongolia and Japan examined Korean reunification, denuclearization, and the impact of Covid-19 on open and closed societies at a virtual roundtable on May 26. The forum specifically explored the perspectives of the two regional states and their historic relations with Korea. The roundtable also contributed to setting an agenda for an August 15 International Forum on One Korea in Seoul and a September convening in Ulaanbaatar (both virtual, details to follow).
