Despite the long journey crossing eleven rivers and steep mountain trails, a dedicated team of Local Government partners and employees from LGU-Capas successfully reached Sitio Flora on September 30, 2025, a remote community nestled in Barangay Maruglo, Capas, Tarlac. Their mission was one of hope and empowerment; to light the path of learning for 103 eager students at Flora Elementary School.

The outreach, organized by the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Philippines in partnership with Bless Microfinance Corporation, reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind, regardless of how far their school may be. Through the collaboration of the local government of Capas, led by Mayor Roseller “Boots” Rodriguez, and the Department of Education (DepEd), the school received a solar generator set, a gift that promises to bring both light and learning opportunities to the community.

For schools in remote areas where electricity is unreliable or nonexistent, access to solar power means much more than illumination. It opens doors to new forms of teaching and learning, supports digital literacy, and enables students to study safely and comfortably after sunset. Alongside the solar generator, students were gifted school supplies to support their daily lessons, while volunteers led storytelling sessions that filled the day with laughter, imagination, and inspiration. The children’s faces lit up with joy as they listened to their new “big sisters” and “big brothers,” realizing that their education and dreams matter to people far beyond their small community.

Principal Sir Noel Mariano expressed his gratitude on behalf of the entire school, emphasizing how the project has uplifted not just the students but also the parents and teachers who have long hoped for better learning conditions. The local government of Capas also extended heartfelt thanks to GPF Philippines, Bless Microfinance Corporation, and all partners who helped make the project possible; an initiative that has made a tangible difference in the lives of young learners in Sitio Flora.

This project is part of GPF Philippines’ broader Global Peace Education (GPEd) initiatives, which collaborate with educators, corporate partners, and community leaders to transform education nationwide. GPEd’s programs, such as GlobALS, an alternative learning system for underserved communities, and the Character and Creativity Initiative (CCI), which integrates values and innovation into school culture, are building the foundation for holistic and inclusive education. Through such initiatives, GPF Philippines continues to redefine education as a way of shaping character, cultivating creativity, and preparing young people to become productive citizens and compassionate leaders.

Globally, the Global Peace Foundation’s Transforming Education framework emphasizes that education must nurture both intellect and heart, equipping learners with the moral and innovative leadership skills needed to thrive in the twenty-first century. From character-based learning in classrooms to solar-powered opportunities in mountain schools, GPF’s education initiatives are guided by one vision: empowering every learner to contribute to peaceful, prosperous, and resilient communities.
