In Hayin Banki community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, one hundred women have received empowerment support through cooperative societies, each granted Naira 1 million to strengthen their families’ livelihoods and contribute to peaceful coexistence. The initiative, funded by the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) and anchored in collaboration with Bethel Candle of Hope for the Vulnerable, seeks to address hardship, reduce poverty, and equip women with resources to build self-reliance.

At the check presentation, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, Country Director of GPF Nigeria, emphasized that the program was part of a broader effort to foster unity and empower women economically for peace. Over the past year, GPF has consistently engaged the Hayin Banki community through sessions on conflict analysis, nonviolent communication, and freedom of religious belief, laying the foundation for resilience and peaceful coexistence.

With this latest phase of economic empowerment, five women’s cooperatives will have the resources to grow sustainable businesses. As Rev. Hayab explained, the goal is to see women become financially independent, thereby ensuring peace and prosperity within their families and communities. The Northern Coordinator of GPF Nigeria, Sheikh Halliru Maraya, noted that this program is part of GPF’s wider effort to reach communities across Nigeria with initiatives that alleviate poverty and strengthen peacebuilding.
