On January 26, 2026, Global Peace Foundation (GPF) India conducted a Republic Day program at its Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (VK) Learning Center in Chaman Vihar, New Delhi. The event engaged 60 participants, including 55 students and five volunteers, teachers, and staff members.

The program focused on civic education and national awareness. Students were taught the significance of Republic Day, including the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950, and the principles of rights, duties, equality, and justice. The session aimed to strengthen constitutional awareness and encourage responsible citizenship among children from underserved communities.

The celebration was implemented under GPF India’s S.M.I.L.E initiative, a community-based model launched in 2018 to promote social cohesion and grassroots development. S.M.I.L.E operates on the principle of shared responsibility, encouraging volunteerism and resource-sharing while fostering long-term empowerment among beneficiaries. The VK Learning Centers, currently active in Karawal Nagar, Chaman Vihar, DLF Ankur Vihar, and Behta Hajipur, provide educational and character-development support to children living in informal settlements.

Activities during the Republic Day program included a structured learning session, recitation of the National Anthem, interactive group exercises, and a motivational address emphasizing education, discipline, and goal-setting. Meals were distributed to all participating children.

The program aligned with GPF’s core framework by integrating interfaith leadership principles, strengthening families as primary agents of character formation, and promoting a culture of service. Through civic learning and community participation, students developed greater awareness of their role in nation-building. Observed outcomes included improved confidence, active engagement in discussions, and increased understanding of constitutional values.

Feedback from participants reflected the program’s relevance. Radha Kumari, a student, expressed motivation to pursue her education and serve the nation in the future: “Today I learned why Republic Day is important. I feel proud to be Indian, and I want to study hard and become a police officer.”

Pardeep Kumar, a parent, acknowledged the program’s contribution to children’s knowledge and self-confidence: “GPF India always supports our children. These programs give them knowledge and confidence, which we cannot always provide.”
