Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nepal recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Education, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (DOE, KMC) to collaborate on the Book Free Friday initiative. This partnership aims to implement the Character and Leadership Development Program in ten government schools, promoting essential life skills and leadership qualities in students.

The Book Free Friday initiative launched in 2023 by the Department of Education in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, is an innovative educational approach designed to move beyond traditional textbook learning. It focuses on equipping students with critical life skills.

Students in Nepal advocate for character education

Under Global Peace Women Nepal and GPF Nepal’s joint Project Saksham, the Character and Leadership Development Program is centered on values-based education and Moral and Innovative Leadership. This program aims to empower young individuals to become transformational leaders in their communities by instilling ethical values, social responsibility, and a proactive mindset for creating lasting positive change from an early age.

By incorporating this program into Book Free Friday, both organizations seek to cultivate well-rounded students who are not only academically competent but also socially aware and capable of making meaningful contributions starting from their families to their communities.
