An international forum in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, brought together policymakers, scholars, and civil society leaders from across Asia and beyond to deliberate new approaches to peace and development in the Northeast Asia region.

The discussions, held under Track 2.0 explored practical strategies for normalizing relations between North and South Korea, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation, advancing regional economic cooperation, and addressing environmental challenges such as desertification and climate change.

One of the notable proposals was a shift in approach to the Korean question: prioritizing unification as the ultimate objective, supported by strong alliances, non-proliferation efforts, human rights advocacy, information sharing, and people-to-people engagement. A task force has been formed to continue advancing the forum’s agreed goals, and a joint statement is expected in the near future.
