This year marks the 25th anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace. This declaration emphasized that peace involves more than just the absence of conflict; it requires active dialogue and mutual understanding. In today’s world, with increasing geopolitical tensions and ongoing conflicts, reflecting on these foundational values is crucial. The declaration advocates for respect for life, human rights, non-violence, and cooperation.
This year’s theme, Cultivating a Culture of Peace, recognizes the responsibility we all have to foster habits that ultimately contribute to building a culture that embraces all people as one human family.
