At Global Peace Foundation, we understand the vital role of volunteer service and community development in sustainable peace. Throughout 2023, we have engaged community members and local organizations as assets and partners to find sustainable solutions to development challenges. Through workshops, training, enterprise development, and cross-cultural service initiatives, GPF is building vibrant communities, fostering self-reliance, and supporting entrepreneurial empowerment.

What makes GPF’s ongoing work in service and development so impactful is that we focus on uplifting and empowering local people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to continue making a difference long after volunteers have left their communities. However, we also make the most of the volunteer experience by creating an immersive program for people passionate about serving others to become moral and innovative leaders who can gather the skills and confidence to go back and make an even bigger impact at home.

After a transformative week of helping rural villagers gain access to clean water in his country of Malaysia, Daniel shared about his volunteer experience:

We’ll take home a lot of lessons, but the highlight for me is working with this team and the villagers—We’re powerful enough by just using our human forces and simple tools. We managed to move everything around and fix what we were supposed to without any heavy machinery.

Ly, a volunteer for GPF Cambodia’s program to teach English to school children, said:

I enjoy working as a volunteer teacher because my fellow colleagues are equally committed to assisting our society, especially the underprivileged children who are as enthusiastic to learn as I am to transfer the knowledge I have to them.
