ESCAP, in collaboration with the Ministry of youth and Sports, Nepal and the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) convened the “South Asia Subregional Consultation on Youth Volunteerism to Promote Participation, Development and Peace” held from 23 to 25 March 2015, in Kathmandu. At the Consultation were 150, mainly youth, participants from 12 countries Also present were the Secretary General of SAARC, the Nepalese Minister of Youth and Sports, government representatives from other countries, youth volunteer organizations, civil society organizations, the private sector and development partners. The Consultation focused on strengthening thecontribution of both youth engagement and volunteerism by addressing cluster issues on development and peace in order to scale up successful collaboration with multilateral partners. Particular attention was given to improvedcoordination among sectors, building consensus and partnership, and mobilizing resources. The event was part of the work of the Asia-Pacific Peace and Development Service Alliance.
