The Guardian reports that the Global Peace Foundation-Nigeria began a training of traditional, religious and youth leaders from three zones on peacebuilding and conflict prevention in Kaduna on January 29, 2016.
The Northern Coordinator of the group, Rev. John Hayab, said the aim was to promote and sustain harmony among the different faith, ethnic and tribal groups.
At the three-day training of trainers capacity building workshop, Rev. Hayab said that all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity and nationality are members of “One family under God,” and thus the need to promote what would sustain enduring peace in the state.
Hayab, a former secretary of Kaduna chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) added that the “One family under God” campaign ideas were pursued by “bringing together diverse people to address common needs and challenges by demonstrating our shared humanity and improving livelihoods.”
Hayab added that in the Summer of 2014, the group held three interfaith youth leaders retreats and in October, a statewide Kaduna peace summit which brought together over 700 key stakeholders including government officials, traditional rulers, and youth leaders from the 23 local councils of the state.
