Established 26 years ago, International Day of Peace shines a light on the universal aspiration for peace within the one human family. Peace Day provides a globally shared day for all humanity to uplift unity in diversity and commit to building a culture of peace and service. This year, the spotlight is on peace in the lives of refugees.
As members of one human family, we share more commonalities than differences. With so many people now living outside their countries of origin, all of us are interacting with people and cultures different from our own. And in engaging with others in our diversity, we are enriched when we honor the dignity and uphold the safety of all.
On this Day of Peace, we are mindful and add our deep concern for the circumstances of the Rohingya people in Myanmar. Thousands are losing their lives because of identity-based conflict and religious differences. It’s up to all of us to build a platform of common cause and shared mission that can foster a healthier and more equitable social environment globally.
Global Peace Foundation stands with the United Nation’s theme for Peace Day – “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety, and Dignity for All”. The world is “smaller” than it has ever been. Our work in East and West Africa, Southeast Asia, and other regions reflects our commitment to refugees and building models of peace and cohesion in diverse communities.
At the Global Peace Foundation, we believe a shared future is within our reach, and that our shared identity and common aspirations as members of the human family establish the basis for sustainable peace.
Let’s #jointogether to build peace within our homes, our communities, our nations and the entire world.
