Thirty nine students from St. Xavier’s College in Maitighar, Nepal gathered under Global Peace Youth (GPY) to participate in a dialogue on the topic, “The Role of Youth in Peace Building.” The occasion was covered on August 8 by My Republic in commemoration of the United Nations’ established International Youth Day 2017, which will be celebrated on August 12.
Rupa Upreti, a youth activist and board member of the National Youth Council, was a keynote speaker at the event. Rupa encouraged her fellow young leaders to be “enthusiastic and energetic toward maintaining peace and harmony in the country.”
Students also discussed the importance of youth participation in politics and other sectors of society to address key issues in their community, highlighting the significance of cooperation between youth from diverse backgrounds of economic standing, culture and faith.
