Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Indonesia partnered with the Jakarta Provincial Culture Office (Disbud DKI) to organize the “Wara Wiri” project, a series of Peace!Project events that explore the capital’s rich religious and cultural diversity. Peace!Project is a signature program of GPF Indonesia that has helped young leaders develop a deeper understanding of their own and other religions and the values they all share to foster respect and friendship.

“Feeling proud because we (the Jakarta Provincial Culture Office & GPF Indonesia)  have something in common regarding tolerance programs related to diversity in Jakarta and additional education and history,” said Iwan Henry Wardhana, Head of the Department Culture Office.

Participants were taken on a guided tour of significant religious sites, including the Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church. Here, they listened to stories from religious leaders and engaged in discussions on the importance of tolerance and harmony, fostering a deeper appreciation for the city’s diverse spiritual landscape. Beyond the places of worship, the event also showcased Jakarta’s cultural heritage, with visits to the Maritime Museum and the Ceramics and Fine Arts Museum. This allowed the participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the city’s vibrant history and artistic traditions.

Attended by 100 participants selected from 761 applicants, including students, teachers, young professionals, and volunteers, the “Wara Wiri” event embodied the spirit of Jakarta as a global hub where diverse faiths and traditions coexist in harmony. Rahma, a participant, shared her experience, saying, “I am very impressed with this program because apart from knowing about religion, we also know about history.”

Mr. Ingill Ra, Regional Representative for Global Peace Foundation Asia Pacific, said, “The collaboration between Global Peace Foundation Indonesia and the Department of Culture Jakarta is essential because this is the country we can showcase the important of the diversity in harmony that is described in Pancasila.”
