GPF India hosted some thirty children at a WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) demonstration at GPF’s S.M.I.L.E Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Learning Center Ankur Enclave in Delhi on July 27, 2023. The team educated the children on the proper way of washing hands and distributed soaps and other personal care products among the families living in the area to help them take the initiative toward maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation.

Children enthusiastically participated in the demonstration. They were taught the six-step handwashing technique recommended by the World Health Organization, which involves wetting hands, applying soap, rubbing palms together, interlocking fingers, cleaning the back of the hand, and scrubbing thumbs and fingertips. During the practice, children washed their hands for at least twenty seconds, the recommended duration.

Children were encouraged to share their newfound knowledge with their friends and families, to positively influence their community’s health by becoming advocates for good hygiene practices. More than three hundred families were involved in this program, where various aspects of WASH were addressed.

GPF India continues to promote the good health and hygiene in underprivileged areas around Delhi through an approach of teaching, practicing, and providing the necessities for a hygienic lifestyle.
