The Global Peace Youth Corps, a youth service and leadership training project of GPFF, hosted activities for students from Paraguay, Brazil, and Peru in late summer and fall 2011 on the theme “Building One Family under God in Latin America.” Projects included social service work, English classes and guitar lessons, and lectures to encourage young people to develop personal values of living for the sake of others.
The GPYC awarded certificates to some students in Asuncion who were participating in guitar lessons, English basics, and character education during the month of August. Members of GPYC Latin America, with Volunteers for a Better Paraguay, also collected books and other items to support a library in Asuncion.
In September, GPYC hosted a young leadership workshop in Peru. GPYC leader Neptaly Rivera also traveled to Huancayo and Trujillo in Peru to meet young Leaders and discuss strategies to advance GPYC’s work in the Andes nation.
In Umuarama, Brazil, the city council assisted GPYC in educational and workplace training for young people, which has led to the placement of 20 students in area businesses. The initiative was reported by RED-GLOBO TV, which interviewed GPYC leader Mrs. Neusa Mulato about the project.
“It’s great to offer these courses and educate young people about living for others through different activities,” said GPYC program director Neptaly Rivera. “We are sowing the seeds for these values to grow in society, to encourage youth to follow their own consciences by focusing on education and service that are offered by GPYC.”
