Manual filtration systems are time-consuming and overlook microbial contaminants that cause diseases like dysentery and cholera.
Global Peace Foundation – Malaysia and beauty products company Laneige Malaysia launched the “Waterful Sharing Campaign” in May. Proceeds are going towards water filtration systems for remote areas in Malaysia that do not have easy access to clean water. Dirty water is the cause of many waterborne illnesses like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid. Manual filtration systems are time-consuming and cannot filter out microbial contaminants.
The first filtration system was delivered on July 26 to the village of Kg Ulu Gerutum, Perak. Laneige Malaysia brand general manager Foong Winnie described the system as “a non-electric unique system that includes a unique siphon backwash feature, microfiltration as well as ultrafiltration membranes effective to remove impurities without the use of chemicals. It’s a simple and reliable solution that can be easily maintained without skilled manpower.”
In addition to providing filtration systems, the ongoing Our Village Water campaign is raising awareness of the importance of clean water and empowering villages to help themselves and others gain access to clean water.
Donations are still accepted at Our Village Water.
