Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Philippines officially opened the three-day 2022 Global Peace Festival on December 1, 2022, in the province of Pampanga. The Asia Pacific festival, “One Family Under God: A Vision for a World of Freedom and Peace,” featured Service-Learning projects, a Global Peace Leadership Conference on regional issues of peace and security, and GPF’s signature festival, which highlights cultural celebration as a tool for peacebuilding and social cohesion.
The Day 1 Service-Learning Program, organized by Global Peace Women, included a series of service marathons such as the tree planting, school humanitarian projects, hospital visits, and a hospital groundbreaking ceremony.
The tree planting environmental service project was held in Sitio Haduan, Mabalacat, Pampanga in partnership with Mabalacat City College and Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementers. Participating students and a foreign delegation planted over 100 seedlings in the far-flung area to fight for climate action.
Other Service-Learning humanitarian projects were hosted in Floridablanca High School in Pampanga, with over 800 beneficiaries from five different public schools provided with medical, dental, and eye checkups; provisions of various goods such as health kits and household supplies; as well as awareness talks on violence against women and on reproductive health.
The concluding Service-Learning Program in Kapampangan Development Foundation, Inc Hospital Services was highlighted by a groundbreaking ceremony for a new hospital to be built in the area. Global Peace Foundation Co-founder and Global Peace Women President Dr. Junsook Moon led the ceremony, which was followed by hospital visits and free medical consultations for disenfranchised patients at the MVP Building of KDF Hospital and Dr. Jose Datu Medical Center.
The Global Peace Leadership Conference resumes on December 2-3, with international scholars, policy makers and peace advocates addressing Transforming Education, Women’s Empowerment, Corporate Social Responsibility, Interfaith and Peacebuilding, Peace and Security, and the Role of the Media in Peacebuilding, Conflict Management, and Prevention.
