Global Peace Foundation Nigeria Country Director, John Oko, urged Muslim leaders to preach beyond the divisions and emphasize the underlying common humanity. “It is high time Nigerians begin to learn to appreciate one another, as both the Christian and Muslim faiths acknowledged that Adam and Eve were the first human creatures on earth,” Oko said.
His statement comes at the commencement of Ramadan this year on June 5. Amidst rising religious extremism in Nigeria, his call is urgent. Global Peace Foundation Nigeria has been working since 2013 with local religious leaders and traditional rulers to promote the understanding that before Nigerians are Muslim or Christian, they are One Family Under God.
