Global Exchange, Community Change

A Global Peace Foundation project in:

The Global Exchange–Community Change Program (GECC) in the community of Jardins do Cerrado works with international and local volunteers to revitalize the area surrounding a newly built apartment complex for people who have relocated from underprivileged areas within the city.

Global Peace Foundation Brazil launched GECC in December 2013 to address environmental and socioeconomic challenges by engaging residents, local supporters and volunteers from Peru, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, Egypt, and China in joint projects to transform the community.

Impact: Through partnerships with local families, schools, the local government, police support and international students through AISEC, an international student exchange organization, GECC is bringing hope to a community that was often unsure of a future of stability and development.

Now, Global Peace Foundation Brazil and their partners are engaging the local community to come together and learn about the world beyond their front door, embrace the strength that can be found in diversity and to know that there is so much potential in their community.  Through partnerships with local farms and universities, GPF Brazil has built a community garden which is providing a sustainable and healthy food source for families.  Other programs focus on the education of the youth as well as the adults.
