For the 30th anniversary of the Esquipulas Accords, several members of the Latin American Presidential Mission gathered together in Washington this week. Former Latin American presidents met with policymakers and representatives of civil society, think tanks, and business at the Organization of American States on Capitol Hill to urge regional cooperation, integration and development. A proposal to revive the Esquipulas process, which terminated long-standing conflict in Central America in the mid-1980s, was discussed as a means to counter the region’s current economic and social problems. The former presidents aim to garner support from the U.S. and all nations in the region.
